Restylane Silk is the first FDA approved lip filler that is uniquely designed to add volume to lips and smooth out wrinkles around the mouth. Some people seek to augment their naturally thin lips with a dermal filler like Restylane Silk. However, this is also a very popular treatment for people that experience thinning lips and new wrinkles around the edges of their mouth due to age.
Over time the skin around our lips begins to loose elasticity, often causing our lips to thin. This natural process also typically causes vertical lines and wrinkles to form around the area of the lips and mouth. In addition, genetics and sun exposure can contribute to the appearance of wrinkles on the face and in the lip area. Although there are several factors that can cause thinning lips and wrinkles, Restylane Silk can be the perfect solution to achieving fuller, smoother looking lips. This cosmetic enhancement can boost self-esteem and give your appearance a fresh, rejuvenated look.
While it is always important to speak with an experienced medical professional before seeking any type of cosmetic treatment, Restylane Silk is generally recommended for people looking to improve the lines and wrinkles around their mouth and enhance the fullness of their lips. Patients receiving this treatment must be over 21 years old and in a general state of good health
Restylane Silk is a dermal filler, though it is specifically designed to improve the appearance of lips and the vertical lines that can accumulate in the mouth area. Restylane Silk is made up of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a natural substance in the body that gives our skin a healthy and smooth appearance. As a HA dermal filler especially designed for lips, Restylane Silk is comprised of smaller, smoother hyaluronic acid particles than other Restylane products. These small HA particles are what give skin its smoother texture. Restylane’s innovative composition reduces wrinkles around the mouth and gives lips added volume that is subtle and natural looking.
When Restylane® SILK is injected, we usually recommend coming 10 to 15 minutes early so we can apply numbing cream prior to treating the area. Although this is one of the thinnest, most conservative fillers on the market, the lip area tends to be a little more tender than other areas on the face. Restylane® SILK does contain a numbing agent called lidocaine, mixed with the filler prior to injection for a more painless treatment. This temporary numbing agent usually only lasts for the duration of your session, though it can last up to two hours or so after your treatment.
Using Restylane Silk has few side effects, the most common being some swelling and tenderness at the site. Some patients experience mild bruising which resolves in a few days following treatment.
These amazing results can last as long as six months, after which we recommend having a touch up. Staying consistent with your injectable Restylane® SILK treatments will leave you with improved results each time you get them. Daily skincare regimens are strongly recommended for best results for fine lines around the lips and throughout the face. Keeping up with a morning and evening skincare regimen will only give you longer-lasting and natural results.
The cost of Restylane® Silk Injection will depend on each patient and their particular needs. All costs will be discussed during your personal consultation.
